What we do
What good is it my brothers if a man claims to have faith but no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, go I wish you well; keep warm and well fed; but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead." ~ James 2: 14,17 0
Evangelism

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." ~Matthew 29:19, 20

In our nondenominational outreach we do not preach religion. We believe that God has provided us with a perfect plan for our lives and salvation and has given us this gift through Jesus Christ, the gospel message and through the Holy Spirit. We strive to share the "Good News" with our brothers in Nicaragua while recognizing that the essentials of the Christian faith rest in the Scriptures and through the Holy Spirit.

Building Homes

Suffering from years of natural disaster and political upheaval, many families in Nicaragua have been left homeless or forced to live in tin and plastic shacks with no water or toilet facilities.

Since Hurricane Mitch struck in October of 1998, we have built about 100 prefab houses in the areas of Tololo, Ruben Dario, Los Ranchos, Salomon de la Selva, and elsewhere in and around Leon, Nicaragua. Each of these built for a cost of $750.00. We return to these areas occasionally to check on the houses and the people, repairing and painting when necessary and continuing to build on our relationships.

In the past two years however, we have concentrated mostly on the refugee Village of El Bethel, building over a hundred of a concrete block style house, which cost about $1,250.00 each. Each family adds its own individuality to their home (arches, open block, ceramic tile, etc.), with remnants of the former shack making an outdoor kitchen behind. For most of the village, this will be the first and only home they will ever call their own.

Sponsoring Families

Over 1500 men in the Leon area (mostly in their 30's) have an incurable kidney disease, caused by lack of clean water and chemicals used in the sugar plantation. The sugar plantation is about the only place available for them to work. Most of these men have wives and small children dependent on their support. After the disease progresses they are dismissed from the plant with no remuneration for their families, and sent home to die. Many of their families go hungry and struggle to survive day to day. more>> The Mark of Cane

Vision Nicaragua is working toward finding sponsors for each of the families. A small donation of $25.00 per month (Less than the cost of your cable TV bill) will help with the supply of food and basic necessities they so desperately need. This is a terrible travesty, but you can make a big difference in their lives by pledging your prayers and financial support to these families.

Medical

Medical facilities in Nicaragua are woefully inadequate. Most families cannot afford basic health care and treatment let alone life saving surgery or medicines.

We are working to provide essential medical care and life saving medicines to families that would otherwise have no hope. Vision Nicaragua has a support staff of two local doctors and a clinic in Bethel. We have recently been given an ambulance and will provide transport to hospitals as well as mobile clinics in villages where there is no medical help. A large donation of medicines has been gifted through a Christian outreach program, which is sponsored by major pharmaceutical companies. We need your prayers and financial support. We are in desperate need of Doctors and nursing personnel to assist us on our mission trips. Please consider giving your time and skills in helping to save lives.

Education

Our mission teams bring hope and opportunity through team effort on our trips. We offer families in these communities life skill training in crafts, woodworking, gardening, and English language instruction. Please help by joining us on a mission trip and sharing your skills and experience with a people who are eager to learn how to help themselves. In an area of little resources, donations of materials for these projects will help to insure continued success. We are currently funding secondary schooling for bright and talented children who would otherwise never have an opportunity to continue to better themselves. Your modest monthly contribution of $10.00 can make all the difference in the future of a child and build bridges of understanding and opportunity.

If you would like to send a donation to help us to provide
educational opportunities, please email inquire@visionnicaragua.org.

Economic Development

Nicaraguan's are a proud and friendly people living in a country of much natural beauty and culture. Amidst the pockets of poverty you will find towns steeped in history with cathedrals and buildings dating back to the 1500's. Unspoiled beaches, mountains jungles and volcanoes invite you to explore where few tourists have ever gone. Join us on a mission trip and take advantage of a tour of a lifetime run by local guides.

Many families have been displaced and stripped of their livelihoods through natural disaster and political corruption. This condition is improving daily. We need volunteers to help with sustained gardening projects, making eye glasses, arts and crafts projects, construction and livestock project development. Help us with any contribution to help make this possible.

If you would like to send a donation to help us to provide economic opportunities
to the Nicaraguan people, please email inquire@visionnicaragua.org.
